I'm sure you fellow filmmakers already know this...
To film one page of a script takes about 2 hours.
In a typical 12 hour shoot day, you can possibly at best complete 5 pages.
A feature length film is at least 110 pages long which would mean you would require at least 22 days of shooting if all goes well.
But there is no set statistic or magical number when it comes to shooting a fight scene.
It can either take hours to days to weeks.
You may want rehearsals.
Your actor may get injured on set, halting production.
And unlike in Hollywood, you don’t have 4 months to have your actor being trained by a fight coordinator or for them to recover from an injury.
As you can see, there is a high risk when it comes to shooting a fight scene within a budget and time frame; and because of this, most action scenes from indie filmmakers come out looking like a generic 2 person dialogue scene.
Boring and unappealing with the simple shot-reverse shot, talking heads look.
I don’t know about you, but we sure don't have the luxury of all that time and money.
This means that being able to film a fight scene quickly AND efficiently WHILE looking action packed is SO important for every indie filmmaker to have in their repertoire.

Hey, I’m Joey Min!
The ASDO Fight Scene Tutorial 101 is the basics of everything that I have learned through my 20+ years of experience being a filmmaker, from working professionally to my independent works through my group, Art School Dropouts.
I hope you guys are on here after seeing what my group could do on our channel but if you don't know who I am:

- 4+ years of helping other film productions choreograph, film, and edit fight scenes
- Social media following of over 30k on Facebook and 10k on YouTube at Art School Dropouts
- Featured in Film Combat Syndicate, the American Reporter, New York Weekly, Martial Arts & Action Entertainment and more…
- Worked with industry professionals and veterans, USA and overseas.
We wanted to make this series to help other independent filmmakers, as we've been getting a lot of questions and emails on how to film action scenes like we do.
Our projects, both big and small, have consisted of action scenes with small to major stunts; and in the 5 years we've been producing digital content for Youtube and other streaming services, no one has EVER sustained any injuries on our set.
We see the passion in other independent filmmakers so we wanted to share our knowledge in order to help them film their action scenes SAFELY and on schedule and all within their budget.
